Overview

The Manager, Accounting manages the operational day-to-day activities of the accounting team. This includes developing and maintaining internal operating procedures and processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, general ledger oversight, year-end audit support preparation, and operational accounting management. The Manager, Accounting manages a team of Operational and Financial Reporting Accountants, allocating and managing work to achieve expected outcomes, developing team member capabilities, and recognizing excellent contributions to the credit union and our membership. The successful Manager, Accounting builds and maintains a high performing team, demonstrates leadership within and across the Credit Union, thrives in a fast-paced and highly dynamic environment, and is agile and accountable.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee the daily operations in accordance with GAAP of the accounting department including, but not limited to:
  • Accounts Payable
  • General Ledger, transactions, and maintenance
  • General Ledger reconciliations
  • Revenue and expenditure variance analysis
  • Fixed assets

  • Lead an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close
  • Ensure the timely reporting of all monthly financial information
  • Ensure Credit Union compliance activities are performed in a timely and accurate manner
  • Assist with internal and external audits, providing supporting documentation as requested as well as improving systems and procedures in response to management recommendations
  • Research new accounting pronouncements and discuss with Controller as needed
  • Ensure accounting policies and procedures are adequate and up to date
  • Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy
  • Advises team members regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions
  • Work with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of team members
  • Other duties and projects as assigned

Qualifications

  • B.S./ B.A. in Accounting or equivalent work experience
  • 7 years or more experience in financial or accounting management in the financial industry
  • 3 to 5 years of supervisory experience in an accounting department
  • Strong knowledge of and experience working with US GAAP, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Strong experience analyzing, assessing, executing month-end and quarter-end close and financial statements
  • Advanced MS Excel expertise required; must be proficient in other MS Office 365 applications (Word, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint).
  • Extensive experience with enterprise accounting systems; working knowledge of Prologue Financials a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to balance speed and accuracy in a fast-paced work environment
  • Proactive approach to problem solving, demonstrating critical thinking skills and proactive communication to leadership.
  • Consistently makes sound, fact-based decisions and judgments.
  • Effectively motivate, challenge, and recognize team members in order to achieve positive results through others.
