Overview

Under direct supervision of the Health Services Administrator (HSA), Program Manager (PM), or higher medical professional, Perinatal Coordinator is accountable for the planning and delivery of patient focused care. The performs OB intake and assessments, provides and delegates care coordination, care planning and facilitation of services in collaboration with the healthcare team, interdisciplinary team, and patient/family and in compliance with all agency, local, state, federal laws and regulations. Qualifications

Education:

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
    Experience:
    • At least two (2) years' in OB or related experience
    • Two years' of OB related correctional/detention facility experience preferred
      Licenses/Certifications:
      • Unrestricted current Registered Nurse license, certification or registration in state of practice - must maintain all certifications, educational requirements, licensing, etc.
      • Current (and must maintain) lifesaving BLS certification through AHA
      • Current (and must maintain) lifesaving ACLS certification through AHA Responsibilities

      • Facilitates admission of patients to the Labor and Delivery unit and patient flow to ensure enough time for patient and family education
      • Assess pregnant patients for labor, either pre-term or active labor at term
      • Assess post-partum status i.e. Activities of Daily Living, Physical Assessment, Bonding with Infants, Birth Control Needs and Lactation Process
      • Utilizes the nursing process to provide quality and efficient patient care according to established standards including: accurately completing admission and other assessments, and collecting, analyzing, and prioritizing assessment data to facilitate proper patient care
        o Transcribe physician, PA/NP orders
        o Document nursing assessments using the S.O.A.P.E. format
        o Prepare and administer medication in accordance with physician orders including: immunizations, antibiotics, narcotic pain medications, vitamins, topical agents, insulin, blood thinners, and allergy antigens.
        o Administers patient medications via PO, Subq, IV and IM and assists with amniocentesis and ultrasound procedures
        o Performs nursing physical assessments or nursing diagnosis, may include cervical exams
      • Obtain and record vital signs and other appropriate information, to include OB intake, patient history and maternal-fetal assessments
      • Perform laboratory procedures and testing to include: blood glucose with visual or meter interpretation; interpretation of skin testing results; dipstick urine; urine specific gravity
      • Obtain specimens for laboratory testing including but not limited to: venipuncture; straight catheterization for urine collection; throat culture; sputum specimens; stool specimens
      • Chart all findings in patient's medical record providing written summaries of history, diagnosis and treatment course or other documentation requirements as outlined by company and Facility
      • Triage and communicate with physician, PA/NP, or Nursing supervisor any potentially significant medical complaints or observations discovered during routine duties
      • Respond and initiate lifesaving measures to man-down calls, identify medical emergencies, and arrange for transportation to hospital
      • Maintain a clean, safe, and secure working environment, clean and sterilize instruments and maintain equipment; keep patient exam rooms clean and orderly; dispose of contaminated items accordingly
      • Anticipate Practitioner's needs for medications, supplies and equipment and plan accordingly
      • May assist in the job shadow portion of the interview process of potential staff
      • May assist for orientation and training of new employees
      • Perform other duties as assigned.
