Operations (EO) ensures the delivery of safe and reliable electric
service to our customers. Electric Operations is responsible for
every aspect of PG&E's electric distribution and transmission
operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and
construction, asset management, business planning, restoration, and
emergency response. Electric Operations Construction Management is
responsible for the construction, project and contract management
of PG&E’s electric distribution overhead and underground
facilities. This role will be part of the Construction Management,
Commercial Enablement & Vendor Management team responsible for
empowering Construction Management with strategic insight,
efficient contract management, and data-driven decisions to deliver
reliable, sustainable, and cost-effective solutions. Position
Summary The Principal Business Analyst provides strategic and
analytical support for PG&E’s Electric Construction Management
programs, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget,
and to the highest quality standards. This role serves as a
centralized point of contact for internal and external
stakeholders, including vendor partners, to drive oversight,
governance, communication, and reporting across assigned programs.
Key responsibilities include analyzing complex business and
operational data, developing actionable insights, and supporting
decision-making through clear, data-driven recommendations. The
incumbent will leverage tools such as Power BI, Excel, SQL, and SAP
to extract, transform, and visualize data, while identifying
opportunities for process automation and efficiency improvements.
Additionally, this role supports vendor management activities,
ensuring alignment on scope, performance, and compliance with
PG&E standards. The Principal Business Analyst plays a critical
role in bridging technical and business teams, fostering
collaboration, and ensuring transparency in program execution.
Although, we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role
will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the
decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these
factors. A reasonable salary range is: 1. Minimum: $128,000 2.
Midpoint: $173,000 3. Maximum: $218,000 Job Responsibilities
Applies depth and breadth of knowledge of Program Management to the
most unique and complex problems. Works autonomously. Anticipates
issues and develops innovative solutions. Demonstrates program
leadership with internal & external stakeholders to support company
goals. May design and develop new, complex programs. May manage
major cross-functional projects and initiatives. May lead
initiatives that impact utility or industry developments. Manages
all aspects of programs that are cross functional, complex, of
broad scope and have a significant financial or political impact on
the line of business. Leads development of overall strategy to
achieve program goals. Partners with Manager/Director to determine
most appropriate and effective program performance metrics.
Develops content and format for reports and dashboards. Prepares
and presents regular updates to senior management, addressing
issues and gaining buy in on solutions. Acts as a thought leader
applying extensive data analytics in the development of strategy or
resolution to complex data issues. Creates very complex automated
data routines and processes for accurate reporting. Develops tools
that enables Construction Management to execute Commercial
decisions Develops both annual and long term program work plan
forecast and budget. Regularly monitors costs vs. budget, presents
status and prepares and proposes solutions to address variances.
Partners with Work Planning/Resource Management teams to plan and
forecast short and long term work to be completed as part of the
program. Monitors and ensures closure/completion of projects and/or
other program work orders. Ensures effective work scheduling and
resources will be available to meet the work plan. Develops
creative solutions to address resource issues. Leads peers and
partner organizations to develop and implement new and/ or improved
processes, procedures, policies, controls and best practices to
improve customer satisfaction, efficiencies, regulatory compliance
and reduce costs. May work with other project or program managers
or peers in other departments or regions to reschedule work,
re-allocate funds and explore creative solutions to achieve
financial and productivity goals. May act as business owner for
specialized systems or tools used as part of the project work in
the program. Works with IT and/or tool vendor on defining user
needs and implementing enhancements/updates. Develops or provides
significant input to PG&E leadership and/or other utilities
with similar programs. Coaches and mentors less experienced
employees. Qualifications Minimum: • Bachelor’s degree or
equivalent experience • Ten (10) years of total related experience
Desired: In-depth knowledge of electric utility processes,
regulatory requirements, critical success factors, goals, and
initiatives. Knowledge of utility industry-specific regulations and
compliance requirements. Strong analytical thinking and ability to
clearly communicate insights and data-driven decisions to
non-technical audiences. Advanced Excel proficiency, including data
cleaning, formulas, tables, and PivotTables. Experience with Power
BI and Power Query for transforming data, building dashboards, and
ensuring reliable refreshes. Familiarity with SQL basics (querying,
joining, summarizing data). Understanding of SAP data extraction
and validation processes. Ability to identify and implement process
improvements using Power Automate flows. Experience with data
analytics and reporting tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, SQL).
Technical skillsets such as Python, SQL, Snowflake, Power BI,
GitHub, and understanding of database structures (in support of the
EO Workplan). Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams
and drive organizational change. Highly skilled at leading project
teams. Advanced financial management, budgeting skills, and
business acumen. PMI Project Management Professional (PMP)
certification. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic
environment. Proven track record of successfully leading
cross-functional projects and teams. Excellent communication,
leadership, and stakeholder management skills. Ability to manage
multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced
