required Description: All NICU travelers are required to float to
Pediatrics and Postpartum. They will take patient assignments,
including couplet care in Postpartum. Travelers who are not
comfortable with this should not apply. All modules must be
completed prior to arrival; travelers will be postponed if not
completed. No exceptions will be made. CERNER experience is
essential. The unit has a Level 3 NICU with 30 beds and an average
census of 22. Certifications required: BLS, NRP, and PALS. Patient
ratios may vary from 1:1 to 1:3 in NICU and 1:4 in Pediatrics.
Electronic medical records are managed through Cerner, with
additional systems for security and breast milk scanning. Charge
nurses are present on each shift. There are no nurse aides on the
unit. Weekend requirements involve working every other weekend,
with the possibility of additional shifts. Holidays require working
2 out of the 3 major holidays. Travelers will not be required to
take call for transports. Scrub color is navy blue. Telemetry is
managed with Philips monitors, and nurses are responsible for basic
arrhythmia interpretation. High-frequency ventilation, Draeger,
Nitric Oxide, and Nava Ventilation are utilized. A neonatal nurse
practitioner is present in-house during night shifts. A
neonatologist is available in-house during day shifts and on-call
overnight for critical infants. Medifusion pumps are currently used
for IV administration, transitioning to Alaris syringe pumps.
Strong IV skills are required due to the patient population.
Respiratory therapy is available 24/7, with 1-2 therapists in the
unit. Pharmacy services are available 24/7. Shifts are from 7 a.m.
to 7 p.m., with no block scheduling allowed. Minimal floating to
Pediatrics is expected. Floor-specific orientation consists of 2
shifts. Common diagnoses include infants from 22 weeks to term,
with high volumes of sepsis, respiratory issues, and drug
withdrawal cases. The unit experiences a high volume of premature
infants and very sick patients. There are no ECMO services; a
delivery nurse and respiratory therapist attend high-risk
deliveries. Candidates must be comfortable working with surrogates.
The hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts during a 13-week assignment.
Charting is performed using Cerner. A BSN is not required for this
position. Trauma level is not specified. Care setting is acute
