VMConAWS Customer Response Engineer Mission:The customer response engineering team is responsible for addressing critical VMConAWS platform escalations which require component/product expertise and immediate engineering assistance to remediate and mitigate issues affecting customers business operations. You will play a key role in identifying and preventing issues impacting the service as well as improving the efficiency of first responders to our customer?s requests.Job Description:As a customer response engineer you will be responsible for incoming Customer escalations initially triaged by Customer facing first responders who require engineering engagement at a component/product level to further triage and remediate the issue blocking customer success.You?ll serve as a liaison at times between engineering teams and customer facing teams to develop high quality solutions to meet customer expectations. You?ll also be expected to gather data required to identify product defects and improvements whilst also improving the triaging abilities of Customer facing responders.R esponsibilities Strong problem-solving and analytical trouble-shooting skills with an aptitude for continuous learning of new technologiesAbility to diagnose entire technology stacksAdhere to DevOps operational principlesIdentify, gather, analyze key performance metrics, logs, and alertsPassion for solving complex issues running real customer workloads across cloud and on-prem environmentsPerform automated remediation actions in a methodical and well documented mannerStrong interpersonal skills and ability to articulate complex technical issues to non-technical audienceParticipate and contribute to post-mortems to analyze and prevent repeat failuresWork closely with software engineering teams to improve availability of servicesEnsure infrastructure security complianceConduct periodic on call duties as needed on a regular basisMinimum Qualifications BS in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent industry experienceDomain level understanding of Public/Private Cloud Infrastructure & NetworkingExperience operating, troubleshooting, and scaling online servicesStrong communication and interpersonal skillsSystematic problem-solving approach coupled with a strong sense of ownership and driveProfessional and open-minded attitudeExperience administering Linux systems in a production environmentOn Call support for high priority incidentsOperational experience with networking (WAN or LAN) and an understanding of network theoryProficient in a common scripting language: Bash, Python, Go, Ruby, etc.Experience with VMware products: vSphere, vCenter, ESX/ESXi, vSAN, and NSXPreferred Qualifications Experience with modern container orchestration systems: Kubernetes, Mesos, DC/OS, SwarmExperience with infrastructure configuration and automations processes and tools: Terraform, Puppet, Ansible, Chef, FabricExperience with security in the cloud: Intrusion, penetration, and vulnerability scanningExperience with monitoring solutions: ELK, Splunk, SUMO, Nagios, PrometheusExperience with Atlassian JIRA Service Desk, PagerDutyExperience with Change Management processes and functionsExperience with various data technologies including relational and non-relational databases and message queuesGood working knowledge of build automation and continuous integration/delivery ecosystem: Git, Gerrit, Maven/Gradle, Jenkins, Docker, Nexus, Artifactory, Selenium.About Us VMware is a global leader in cloud infrastructure and business mobility.
